Hey Crafters,
This is Karen and I’m here today to share the story of how I easily embellished my damaged flip flops. It was only half way through the summer when the metallic strap began to crack and fade. Then the lovely shiny foil began to disintegrate. This was especially frustrating as the soul was comfortable and the tread was still substantial. So I knew I could try to rejuvenate them with new life if I could find a suitable crafty camouflage to disguise the flaws. Take a look!

Other Supplies: faux diamond trim, flip flops, clear varnish, paint brush
Before: After:
Measure the strap of the flip flop with a measuring tape and cut a length of faux diamond trim that will cover the strap. (TIP: Allow for an extra 1/2 inch more than you think you need.) Apply BGE to the back of the trim and align it carefully along the front of the strap. After it is completely adhered, trim any bits that overhang the edge. After the glue has dried, check for any sticky spots where excess glue has leaked out from under the trim. Next, use the Best Cleaner Ever to remove it with a cotton swab. Alternatively, wipe it with the Perfect Crafting Pouch which exudes a fine powder that will coat the sticky glue deactivating its stickiness.
As a final step, I applied clear varnish to the faux diamond covered strap to give it an extra layer of protection. Hopefully, this will protect them from harsh chemicals in the pool water, as well as, from the typical wear and tear that flip flops endure. The next time you are tempted to toss your battered summer flip flops, consider the possibility of adding an embellishment or trim that can extend their life.
