Hi all- Amy here, with a video tutorial and a lessons on the power of the sun. In case you’ve ever doubted the need for sunscreen…check this out. In October 2010, I made the video on how to make paper bows from cardstock and scrapbook papers….
Check out this video and see how easy it is. With the variety of papers in your stash, you’ll be making bows for all sorts of occasions!
A few of those bows have been sitting for three years on the windowsill with western exposure in the pacific northwest. Not only are we known for grey skies, but the window is shaded by deep woods. OH MY GOSH!!! I couldn’t believe bleaching!
Can you see how the right half of the bow is almost bleached to white? |
Check this out! See that bit of orange “shadow”? |
That bit of orange is not a shadow; it was “protected” from the sun by the loop above it. That white paper used to be solid orange! |
Here is the bottom side of the bow which is pretty much the original colors:
The Takeaway? The sun is a very strong bleach agent. Protect photographs and other precious memorabilia from direct sun. A scrapbook does an excellent job of this, as does a certain expensive type of glass. Even your fabric furniture will fade if exposed to direct sun, so use your blinds, curtains, or shades. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes, and of course, apply sunscreen to your skin. (Even in the Pacific Northwest:)
