Hi crafters and artists, Kim L. here today to share a very special project with you. I was inspired by another team member to get re-acquainted with my art journal. I did, and discovered that I love it! The family of products from ScraPerfect are perfect for mixed media!
First, let me say that one cannot go wrong with mixed media and this does include art journaling. The key is layering, if you think something looks messy or unfinished just add another layer. That said, just be careful not to overload your page with too many heavy items. I started with a blank page, but you can always use gesso to cover an existing page. Here are a few photos of my layers.
For these beginning steps, I used Best Glue Ever (after the initial coat of paint was dry) with a
Small No Clog Writing Cap to control the amount of glue I used since it has the quickest stick.
I used it on: torn paper bag pieces, torn dyed music paper, torn and painted journal cards, and punched and painted circles. I also used some permanent markers and stickles from my stash during the layering for depth and emphasis.
Then, I pulled some metal embellishments out of my stash that I had previously rusted and used the
Best Glue Ever to adhere these to my art journal page. Intermittently between these steps, I used a coat of mod podge from my stash to seal each layer. I also used Embellie Gellie to grab onto embellishments and tap them into place. I used the Best Cleaner Ever to clean off all of the layers on my hands and my craft mat.
Now, here are some photos of my completed art journal page.
