Have you ever had problems disposing of craft materials such as glue, inks or paints and inadvertently caused your drain to overflow? It is frustrating to have a clogged drain but fortunately, there are a number of natural steps you can take to keep your drains clean and unclogged.
(BONUS: Don’t miss how to remove chewing gum, makeup, tree pitch, stickers, grease and more from clothes, walls, etc!)
The Un(clogging)-Cola
This idea fits in the “crazy enough it actually works” category. Common drain clogs can often be resolved by Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and other sugary sodas and soft drinks. Sure, it may be a stretch to call these solutions “natural” (though there are natural sodas out there), but they are much safer than commercial drain cleaners. Thanks to phosphoric acid and other dissolving agents, soda can break through clogged debris and leave your drains clean.
ECO-FREINDLY and Homemade Cleaners
It is possible to make homemade mixture solutions or use eco-friendly and non-toxic alternatives such as The Best Cleaner Ever™. Unlike commercial cleaners, The Best Cleaner Ever™ or homemade options do not come with the risk of pipe deterioration or damage after several uses. A simple baking soda and vinegar concoction is the most common at-home mixture. It breaks down loose materials within pipes when combined. About four minutes after pouring a cup of each down your drain, flush it out with plenty of boiling water.
Hot Water
Speaking of boiling water, it may be all you need to clean your drain. Through a simple combination of force, heat, and water pressure, you can dislodge built-up gunk and clogged craft materials by flushing your drain pipes with hot water. Try running the water through your dirty or clogged drains for around fifteen minutes for best results. This will return your pipes to their optimal working condition if all goes according to plan.
Drain Snake
A plumber’s drain snake is an excellent, affordable tool to have on hand if you regularly deal with gunk accumulation or clogged drains. Professional plumbers generally use the drain snake to excavate drain pumps and relieve standard clogs. After a single use, it will pay for itself. You just feed the snake through your drain, rotate the snake against the blockage, and slowly remove the snake from your drain.
Plunger
Or, you could use a tool that you likely already have on hand. A plunger works well for a variety of drains. You are able to clear a pipe by using a steady buildup of pressure from fluid motions. Just be sure you cover the entire opening of the drain with your plunger.
Speaking of SCRAPERFECT’S BEST CLEANER EVER, we know it’s an amazing craft, rubber-stamp, tool and hand cleaner, but did you know it’s also an all-around-the-house power punch in a small pink bottle!
