Deborah here, and today I’m sharing a fun way to add some interest to your scrapbook layouts by stamping a background. I used a stamped image in a pale color in addition to these punched shapes to create a background for my photo.
Before I stamped or glued anything down I layed the shapes, photos and stamps onto my cardstock to determine placement. That lets me move things around to my heart’s content before committing to anything. These stamps were clear rubber, which made it easy to see how they’d look.
Tip: If you’re having problems visualizing your stamps, stamp on a scrap piece of paper and use that when planning your layout.
After I was satisfied with my design I used the Best Glue Ever to adhere the punched arrows on the page. Next I lightly dusted the kraft cardstock with the Perfect Crafting Pouch before stamping. The sentiments in black ink were stamped first, then the title, with the faint daleks last.
The “sweet” title was stamped in Versamark embossing ink, embossed with Ranger’s sticky embossing powder, then foiled with ScraPerfect’s transfer foil. I decided to use a blue foil that matched the blue circles in the background paper.
Finally, I added the large dalek stamps (which fans of Doctor Who should recognize). Since this stamp was quite large, relatively, I decided to use a very light Distress Ink. You can see the back of the layout where I tested a few colors before settling on this pink.
Which brings me to another tip: save your patterned paper by cutting out the parts that will be covered up by other paper. This blue grid is the back side of my border paper. I really like this paper and didn’t want to waste the middle section, so I marked the edges of where the kraft paper would sit and cut inside that line about 1.5″ to give enough of an edge to adhere the kraft paper.
