Snowflake Ornament with Embellie Gellie and Dew Drops!

One of my favorite Christmas activities every year is making ornaments for the tree.  Lately I have been particularly enamored of snowflakes and once I received my Ace of Diamonds Dew Drops from Rachel at The Robin’s Nest I was inspired to create this one:

Look complicated?  It’s not!  It is really very easy with The Best Glue Ever and Embellie Gellie!

The first step is to draw a 2″ square on a piece of scrap paper and draw diagonal lines through the center.
Next, tape a piece of vellum on top of that and cover the area with a thin coat of The Best Glue Ever.

While you are waiting for the glue to dry clear and tacky, arrange your Dew Drops into the design of your choice.  I also took this opportunity to gently file off the occasioinal burr with an emery board because it will help the pieces fit more snugly.

The next step goes very quickly because of the Embellie Gellie!  Pick up your first Dew Drop and place it so that the point touches the center of the square and the edge aligns with one of the diagonal lines.  Then you just add Dew Drops in sequence as shown below.

If you accidentally put one in the wrong spot, you can pop it off very quickly and try again. Once they are all in place, firmly press them onto the glue covered vellum.  Next I cut out the snowflake design, removed the scrap paper from the back and set it aside.

The lace snowflake actually came from a kit created by Wrights and I have had it in my stash for a while.  I am sure you can recreate it with lace from the local fabric store.  If there is not a pattern with holes along one edge, you can create them yourselves.  The lace is 2.5″ wide and is gathered around a plastic ring as shown.

The red snowflake was cut and embossed with a Spellbinders Create A Flake die.  You can see I used my ScraPerfect supplies to place tiny rhinestones at the tips. I also used a Spellbinders Scalloped Circle die to cut a piece of shiny holographic paper to back the snowflake.

I used The Best Glue Ever (TBE) to attach the snowflake to the circle and the circle to the lace.  I also added a red rhinestone to the center of my snowflake.  I never have to worry whether it will work or not.  TBE works so well with all kinds of materials!

NOTE:  If you are tempted to  draw directly on the vellum instead of the scrap paper – Don’t do it!  The Dew Drops are transparent and the pencil line will show through.  I know, because I did it with the first one I made so learn from my mistakes!  🙂

Here is a close up of the finished project.
